'Pirates of the Caribbean 6' moving forward as script work continues

Development on Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is continuing at The Walt Disney Company, with producer Jerry Bruckheimer offering a new update that suggests the long-delayed sequel remains active, even if still in early stages.

The franchise, last seen in 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales, has been on hold for years despite its earlier entries becoming global box office hits.

Plans for a sixth film have repeatedly stalled due to shifting creative directions, behind-the-scenes changes, and uncertainty surrounding returning cast members.

Speaking about the project, Bruckheimer confirmed that work on the screenplay is ongoing, adding that the team is “close on part of it,” indicating that development is gradually progressing.

One of the biggest unanswered questions remains whether Johnny Depp will return as Captain Jack Sparrow, a role widely associated with the franchise’s identity.

Bruckheimer suggested Depp’s involvement would depend on the script, saying the actor could return “if he likes the way the part’s written.”

Depp’s status has been a major point of speculation among fans, especially given the character’s central role in the series’ success.

While plot details remain under wraps, earlier instalments left potential story threads open, including a tease involving the return of Davy Jones in a post-credits scene.

Although no production timeline or official casting has been confirmed, the latest comments signal renewed movement on the long-awaited sequel, suggesting that the iconic pirate saga may eventually set sail again after years of uncertainty.
