In May 2018, actor Dylan Sprouse publicly tagged Leto on X (formerly Twitter), questioning his practice of directly messaging young female models. The resurfacing of the post coincides with the release of a new documentary detailing accounts of sexual misconduct spanning several years.

In his original social media post, Sprouse wrote, "Yo JaredLeto now that you’ve slid into the dm’s of every female model aged 18-25, what would you say your success rate is?" At the time, Sprouse was 25 and dating his now-wife, model Barbara Palvin, while Leto was 46. Director James Gunn also responded to Sprouse's tweet in a since-deleted comment, making a critical remark regarding Leto's online interactions. Representatives for Sprouse, Palvin, and Gunn did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Documentary details allegations from ten women spanning nearly two decades

The renewed focus on past criticisms follows the release of the BBC documentary "Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret." The film features interviews with ten women who detail alleged traumatic sexual encounters, including sexual assault, with the 54-year-old performer between 2002 and 2016. Four of the women alleged they were underage at the time of the encounters.

In addition to testimony from accusers, the documentary includes interviews with two former crew members who worked with Leto's rock band, Thirty Seconds to Mars. The crew members reported feeling uncomfortable with Leto's interactions with teenage fans, describing instances where young women were invited backstage, into dressing rooms, and to his personal residence.

Legal responses, previous reporting, and public denials

This week's allegations follow a June 2025 investigative exposé in which nine women previously accused Leto of inappropriate sexual behavior, with several accusers reporting they were minors when the incidents occurred.

Leto has consistently and unequivocally denied all allegations of sexual misconduct and assault. In a statement addressing the documentary's claims, Leto branded the allegations "absolutely and categorically false," stating, "I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life." His legal representatives maintain that the accounts featured in recent reports do not reflect the reality of his past interactions.
