Scarlett Johansson unimpressed by Colin Jost’s $280K ferry purchase
The comedian describes the ferry deal as a risky but ambitious venture
Scarlett Johansson had a blunt reaction when husband Colin Jost revealed he had become part-owner of a decommissioned Staten Island ferry.
The actress was far from impressed after Jost informed her that he had joined a group of investors to purchase the retired John F. Kennedy Staten Island Ferry for $ 280,000, a move he himself had described as a questionable investment.
Speaking in a teaser for the upcoming May 4 episode of the SmartLess podcast, Jost recalled texting Johansson with the surprising news.
“I texted Scarlett, like, ‘Guess what? We own a ferry now,” he shared.
Johansson’s response was immediate and pointed. According to Jost, she replied: “We?”
The comedian said the unusual purchase came about after fellow comedian and longtime friend Pete Davidson alerted him that the historic ferry was up for auction.
Jost admitted he was probably the wrong person to receive such a message, recalling that Davidson had floated the idea of buying it together.
The proposal quickly gained traction, with both Staten Island natives embracing the spontaneous investment.
The 43-year-old explained that he initially viewed the vessel as a unique real estate opportunity, noting its 70,000-square-foot size and imagining the possibilities if docked along Manhattan’s waterfront.
He has since envisioned transforming the ferry into a multi-purpose entertainment venue, complete with a swim club and seasonal trips to Miami during the winter months.
Despite describing the venture as a “crazy money pit,” Jost appeared optimistic about its future, insisting the ambitious project will work out.
Johansson, however, appears less convinced.
The couple, who married in 2020, welcomed their son Cosmo in August 2021.
While Jost remains enthusiastic about the ferry’s potential, Johansson’s reaction suggests she may need more convincing before embracing the unconventional investment.
