Meghan Markle highlights power of fashion to support local businesses globally
Meghan Markle discusses how her clothing choices influence global brand perception
Meghan Markle has spoken candidly about the significant influence of the fashion industry and the vital importance of supporting local brands.
The Duchess of Sussex, who has recently returned from a high-profile tour of Australia, emphasised her commitment to championing small businesses and regional designers to assist in their brand-building efforts.
Speaking to Women’s Weekly Australia, the Duchess explained that she views clothing as a primary form of communication.
“Fashion is one of the most powerful industries,” Meghan Markle stated, adding, “It influences how we feel and what we project.”
The Duchess highlighted that her sartorial choices are often a deliberate attempt to celebrate the unique heritage of the places she visits.
“I love being able to wear local designers and celebrate the craftsmanship that’s happening in whatever region I’m travelling to,” she remarked.
However, she also addressed frustrations regarding media inaccuracies. “Over the last several years, I would hear about an incorrect designer getting credit for something I wore, either via affiliate links or press, and that never seemed fair,” the Duchess noted, insisting on the principle of “credit where credit is due.”
Meghan further explained that her selection process is purposeful, intended to shine a light on those who take immense pride in their work.
“These brands and designers work so hard and take great pride in their work, and I choose them for a reason,” she said.
Following her successful tour, the Duchess remains focused on her philanthropic work through the Archewell Foundation and her upcoming lifestyle and media ventures.
