Brenda Song admits hospital visit after overwhelming Lakers game reaction
The actress admits her NBA fandom once led to a hospital visit
Brenda Song has revealed that her fiancé Macaulay Culkin is often concerned about how intensely she reacts while watching Los Angeles Lakers games, joking that he worries she might “get into a fight” at the arena.
The Running Point star, 38, opened up about her passionate fandom during an appearance on Kylie Kelce’s podcast Not Gonna Lie, where she discussed her long-standing love for the NBA team and her famously animated reactions courtside.
“Mac is always worried that I’m going to get into a fight at a game,” Song said. “I have no problem. Especially if you’re coming to our house, get out of here.”
Song, who is frequently seen attending games with Culkin at Crypto.com Arena, admitted her enthusiasm has sometimes gone beyond casual fandom.
She recalled a particularly intense moment during a Game 7 matchup between the Lakers and Sacramento in the Western Conference Finals, saying the experience became so overwhelming that she once hyperventilated and had to go to the hospital.
“I was watching a game… it was so anxiety-ridden,” she said, adding that she even continued watching the post-game coverage from the waiting room despite medical attention.
The actress joked that she developed “superstitions” around the game, including repeatedly taking sips of water after believing it influenced the Lakers’ scoring streak.
Song said her reactions have calmed over time, but she still considers herself an extremely passionate supporter.
“I feel like I am so much calmer than I would be at a Rams game,” she said. “My goal is to be an assistant defensive coordinator.”
Her intensity has even been acknowledged by the NBA team itself, which previously featured her reactions in a mic’d-up social media clip where she was heard cheering and shouting encouragement during a game.
Despite Culkin’s concerns, Song insisted her energy is all part of the experience and reflects her lifelong connection to basketball.
The actress, who stars as Ali in Netflix’s basketball-themed series Running Point, said her love for the sport began in childhood, inspired by watching legends like Michael Jordan and later becoming a dedicated Lakers fan.
Song and Culkin, who met in 2014 and began dating in 2017, share two children together and often attend games as a family.
