Doechii ditches shoes at Met Gala 2026 in bold Marc Jacobs look
Doechii arrived barefoot at the 2026 Met Gala, saying she wanted to feel 'grounded' and comfortable
Doechii ditched convention and her shoes at the 2026 Met Gala, walking the red carpet barefoot in a deliberate style statement meant to keep her “grounded” during fashion’s biggest night.
The 27-year-old rapper arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday, May 4, wearing a custom Marc Jacobs creation styled by Sam Woolf.
The nearly sheer, skin-baring look featured a draped silhouette, a flowing cape-like detail, and an oversized headpiece that her hairstylist Matthew Jean-Pierre called “the star of the show,” according to Vogue.
But it was her lack of footwear that drew immediate attention.
Speaking with press on the red carpet, Doechii said the decision to go barefoot was intentional and deeply personal.
“I want to feel comfortable, feminine, and most importantly, grounded,” she said in a video shared by InStyle. “I want to feel beautiful tonight. I don’t give a damn, I don’t care.”
Her appearance marked her second Met Gala, following a high-profile debut in 2025 that went viral after she was filmed in a tense exchange with her team outside The Mark Hotel over umbrella coverage.
She later addressed the moment on TikTok, writing, “God forbid a girl needs more umbrellas.”
This year, however, the Grammy winner appeared focused on control and comfort rather than chaos, embracing a stripped-down approach to one of fashion’s most scrutinized red carpets.
Doechii has previously leaned into unconventional fashion choices tied to freedom and ease.
In March 2025, she also appeared barefoot at Paris Fashion Week for the Chloé Spring/Summer 2025 show, reinforcing a growing personal style motif that rejects traditional footwear altogether.
At the 2026 Met Gala, her Marc Jacobs ensemble paired minimal structure with maximal presence, accessorized with ornate bracelets and anklets that replaced the usual focus on shoes.
Her return also followed last year’s Louis Vuitton shorts suit look, styled to align with the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme, complete with Tiffany & Co. jewelry.
