Jake Paul admits he may never fight again following Anthony Joshua loss
The social media star suffered a broken jaw in two places against Anthony Joshua
Jake Paul said his boxing future remains uncertain as he continues recovering from the serious jaw injuries he suffered during his knockout loss to Anthony Joshua last year.
The YouTuber-turned-boxer revealed that complications from the injury could potentially prevent him from returning to the ring, months after breaking his jaw in two places during the December bout against the former heavyweight world champion.
Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, Paul admitted there is a real possibility his fighting career could be over depending on how his recovery progresses.
“Most definitely,” Paul said when asked if his future in boxing is in doubt. “I think it just depends on how the bone heals.”
The 29-year-old added that he is also dealing with dental damage sustained during the fight.
“There’s a tooth missing that I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to get an implant of some sort,” he explained.
“I don’t know how much time that’s going to add to things. But we just have to see and figure out what the smartest thing is for me.”
Paul revealed he has not yet been medically cleared to spar since the Joshua fight and is awaiting further scans to determine the next steps in his recovery.
“I’m getting some new scans in a couple of days, of the jaw, to get an update on the healing process,” he said. “We’ll see what the doctors say.”
He continued, “I think I’ll be able to get a more accurate timeframe, or can I even fight again? That is definitely in the realm of possibility.”
Although the injuries remain serious, Paul said he has noticed gradual improvement in recent weeks and continues training lightly while awaiting medical clearance.
“It does feel a lot better as weeks go by,” he shared. “I’m sort of staying in shape and enjoying some mitt work. I’m always in the gym regardless.”
Earlier this year, Paul had sounded more optimistic about a potential comeback, telling Sky Sports in March that he hoped to return to action by late 2026 if his recovery stayed on track.
“I love fighting,” he said at the time. “I love all sides of it, even the broken jaw and all the things that come with the sport.”
Paul added then that he believed he could resume sparring within several months and potentially fight again before the end of the year.
