Margot Robbie responds to persistent confusion over Australian birthplace
The star addressed the rumour during a recent interview with Magic FM
Margot Robbie has addressed a persistent online rumour about her place of birth, setting the record straight during a recent radio interview.
The Barbie star, 34, appeared on UK radio station Magic FM, where she clarified widespread misinformation suggesting she was born in Dalby, a rural town in Queensland, Australia.
“It says I was born in Dalby, which is where my family is from, but I wasn’t,” Robbie explained, referring to incorrect online listings that have circulated for years.
The actress confirmed that she was actually born on the Gold Coast, adding that the confusion has long surprised her.
“I was born on the Gold Coast. It’s not a stupid rumour, it’s just amazing that this far along it is still incorrect,” she said.
Robbie also expressed uncertainty over how the misinformation originated, noting that it has continued to appear across search engines and biography pages despite her previous clarifications.
While she was not born in Dalby, the Suicide Squad star emphasized that the town remains an important part of her family history.
She has previously spoken about her connection to the area, including during a 2014 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where she described Dalby as her family’s hometown.
“My family is from a little country town called Dalby, which is three hours inland… It’s very small,” she said at the time.
