Olivia Rodrigo announces new single 'The Cure' to drop on 22 May ahead of her third album

Olivia Rodrigo is continuing to build momentum ahead of her third studio album, announcing that her next single, The Cure, will be released on 22 May.

The announcement

The Grammy-winning singer shared the news on social media, describing the track as "my favourite song" from her forthcoming album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.

The Cure will mark the second single from the record, following Drop Dead, which made an immediate impact upon its release in April, debuting at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The album itself is scheduled for release on 12 June via Geffen Records.

A nod to a legendary band?

Rodrigo has hinted that the new single may carry a connection to the iconic rock band The Cure, whose music was referenced in the lyrics of Drop Dead.

Fans have been quick to speculate that the title serves as both a tribute to the band and a thematic continuation of the romantic storytelling that runs through the album.

An album of sad love songs

Rodrigo has described You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love as a collection of "sad love songs," exploring the excitement and uncertainty that accompany falling deeply in love.

With Drop Dead already sitting at the top of the charts and anticipation mounting for The Cure, Rodrigo's new era continues to generate significant buzz — both ahead of the album's release and her forthcoming Unravelled Tour.
