‘Euphoria’ season 3 includes tribute to late star Angus Cloud

The latest season of HBO’s Euphoria has paid tribute to late actor Angus Cloud, with series creator Sam Levinson delivering an emotional dedication during the season 3 finale screening in New York City.

Levinson opened the event by reflecting on Cloud’s life and legacy, telling attendees that the actor “deserved more time” and a fuller life.

Cloud, who portrayed Fezco in the hit series, died in July 2023 at the age of 25 from an accidental overdose involving fentanyl.

“Moments like these are rare. This season we lost Angus. Many of you loved him the way I did. He deserved more time, a longer, fuller life,” Levinson said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

He added that Cloud’s death deeply affected both him and the direction of the series, noting the wider impact of substance abuse on young people in the United States.

While Fezco’s storyline included a prison sentence in the series, the character remained a presence throughout season 3 despite not appearing on screen in the traditional sense. In the finale, viewers saw a moment suggesting Fez may have escaped prison, along with an unseen clip of Fezco and Rue standing together in a field.

Levinson said the decision to keep the character present was intentional, explaining, “Angus didn’t make it in real life, so at least in the made-up world of Euphoria, he’s still alive.”

The season also included additional tributes, opening with a dedication to actor Eric Dane, who portrayed Cal Jacobs.

Levinson has previously spoken about how Cloud’s passing reshaped his creative outlook, saying it pushed him to reflect on themes of purpose, faith, and meaning while developing the new season.

“He made me step back and go, what is the story I want to tell?” Levinson said, adding that the experience influenced the show’s broader focus on belief and human connection.

The tribute has resonated strongly with fans, many of whom continue to remember Cloud’s performance as Fezco as one of the series’ most beloved roles.
