Grammy Award winning singer Peabo Bryson battles health setback after stroke

Grammy Award–winning R&B singer Peabo Bryson has suffered a stroke and is currently receiving medical care, according to a statement from his representative.

The family of the 74-year-old artist has asked for privacy during what they described as a deeply personal and difficult time.

In a statement shared with Billboard, the representative said that messages of support from fans and well-wishers are appreciated.

“At this time, the family requests privacy as they navigate this deeply personal moment together,” the statement read.

“The thoughts, prayers and love of friends and fans are welcomed and deeply appreciated.”

No further details regarding Bryson’s condition have been released at this time.

Bryson is widely recognized for his decades-long career in music, earning acclaim for his smooth R&B vocals and romantic ballads.

He is best known for performing iconic Disney duets including “Beauty and the Beast” with Celine Dion and “A Whole New World (Aladdin’s Theme)” with Regina Belle, both of which remain among his most celebrated works.

Over his career spanning nearly five decades, Bryson has won two Grammy Awards and produced numerous R&B hits such as “Tonight, I Celebrate My Love,” “I’m So Into You,” and “Gimme Some Time.”

The singer has also collaborated with artists including Natalie Cole and built a legacy as one of the most recognizable voices in adult contemporary and R&B music.

Bryson is married to British singer Tanya Boniface, and the couple shares a son. He also has an adult daughter from a previous relationship and several grandchildren.

This is not the first major health scare for the singer; in 2019, Bryson reportedly suffered a heart attack but later made a full recovery.
