Emma Corrin opens up about reluctant return to social media

Emma Corrin has opened up about reactivating their Instagram account after a year away, saying they returned to the platform due to professional demands rather than personal choice.

Speaking in a recent interview with Variety, the 29-year-old actor, who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, said they had largely broken the habit of using social media during their time offline.

“It’s actually kind of amazing how I’ve broken the habit,” Corrin said. “I don’t have anything in my brain that’s like: ‘I wonder what’s happening on Instagram?’”

However, Corrin explained that work commitments ultimately led them back to the platform. “It was work… I was kind of given no choice in the world we live in today,” they said, adding that rejoining Instagram was a practical decision rather than an enthusiastic one.

“You know what? It’s not a hill worth dying on. Make the best of it,” Corrin added, reflecting on the realities of maintaining a public profile in the entertainment industry.

Since returning, Corrin has used their platform to share personal and creative content.

Their first post after reactivating the account featured an image of them in a wedding dress, captioned, “Ur fave queer bride.”

The actor also reflected on the significance of representation online, saying they feel it is meaningful to exist visibly as a non-binary person on social media, even if it only helps a small number of people.

“It’s really nice knowing that I’m a nonbinary person on Instagram and even if it’s just helping one person to see that, that’s worth it,” they said.

Corrin also discussed their breakout role as Princess Diana in the Netflix series The Crown, describing it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that continues to hold special meaning for them.

“I don’t think roles like that come along often,” they said, noting that the experience felt distinct from other projects they have taken on since.
