Steve Burton accuses ex-wife Sheree Gustin of 'parental alienation' in custody dispute
The former couple shares three children and finalized their divorce in 2023 after twenty years of marriage
General Hospital star Steve Burton has accused his ex-wife, Sheree Gustin, of interfering with his custody arrangements and “systematically” damaging his relationship with their 11-year-old daughter, Brooklyn, according to new court documents.
Burton, 55, claims Gustin, 49, is engaging in what he describes as “blatant parental alienation” and creating obstacles that prevent him from exercising his court-ordered custody rights.
In the filing obtained by People, the actor alleges Gustin has “repeatedly refused” to allow his wife, Michelle Lundstrom, to pick up Brooklyn on his behalf and has made co-parenting increasingly difficult since he relocated to Tennessee.
He also claims Gustin has resisted allowing Brooklyn to spend extended time at his home, arguing she has blocked arrangements that would let their daughter visit him out of state.
Burton further alleges that Gustin does not acknowledge his wife’s role in Brooklyn’s life or recognize Lundstrom’s children as Brooklyn’s stepsiblings, despite what he says is a close relationship between them.
Gustin, however, denies the allegations. In her response filing, she maintains that no alienation is taking place and said the pair previously established a parenting schedule through earlier legal proceedings.
She states she supports Brooklyn having a relationship with her father but does not want their daughter to “spend half her life traveling.”
Gustin adds that she limits extended visits to no more than three weeks at a time and says Burton has the option to travel to California if he wishes to see his daughter more frequently.
The former couple shares three children: Brooklyn, 11, as well as adult children Makena, 22, and Jack, 20.
Burton and Gustin finalized their divorce in 2023 after more than two decades of marriage. Under their agreement, they were granted joint legal and physical custody of their minor children, with Burton ordered to pay child support until 2024.
Burton later remarried in 2025, tying the knot with Lundstrom after the pair got engaged following a brief engagement period.
