Miranda Lambert and Ella Langley recall wild snake encounter that turned Into a ‘redneck’ showdown

Miranda Lambert and Ella Langley turned an unexpected farm encounter into a memorable songwriting story after a snake interrupted one of their creative sessions.

The country music stars, who connected through mutual friends and began working together on songs, recalled the unusual moment during a conversation with Reba McEntire for ELLE magazine’s “Three Generations” feature.

Langley, 27, explained that the session took a surprising turn when she spotted a snake nearby.

“We were in the middle of a write and I saw a snake. I tried to get up and catch it. And Miranda walked outside with a shotgun,” Langley said.

Lambert, 42, clarified that the dramatic moment happened at her farm and was partly a playful attempt between the two singers to impress each other.

“We were at the farm, y’all. We were trying to out-redneck each other. That’s what we were doing,” Lambert said.

Luckily for the snake, it escaped before Lambert could take action. Langley said she scared it away before her friend could use the shotgun.

“The snake did not get shot at. I scared it off and she was mad at me for that,” Langley joked. “She’s like, ‘Dang it, I was right here.’”

Lambert laughed about the situation and invited McEntire to join them for a future writing session.

“We won’t do snakes and shotguns if you come by with us. We’ll keep it low-key,” she joked.

McEntire responded by asking if the gathering would include iced tea, prompting a playful exchange about adding “a little something-something” to the drink.

The snake encounter was not the only unusual animal story the pair shared. Langley also revealed she had long been curious about Lambert’s reported pet kangaroo.

She recalled first hearing about the animal when she was 18 but waited years before finally asking Lambert about it.

“I didn’t know if it was inappropriate or weird,” Langley said, explaining that after they became friends, she finally brought it up.

Lambert confirmed she once had a kangaroo that later had a baby, which she became attached to.

“I did and then it had a baby, and that was my baby, and I loved it,” Lambert said.

The conversation eventually inspired the duo’s song “Choosin’ Texas,” with Langley recalling another story about Lambert being pulled over while carrying an unusual group of passengers.

Lambert joked that she once had “five dogs in the backseat and a kangaroo in the front” while driving with Texas plates, saying that kind of situation was possible back home in Oklahoma.

Langley said the officer was so surprised by the kangaroo that the original reason for the traffic stop was quickly forgotten — creating yet another unforgettable story between the two country artists.
