TikTok health influencer Lartey Solomon shot dead in alleged Oakland robbery
The healthcare professional is remembered as a devoted father, mentor and advocate for health awareness
Lartey Solomon, a registered nurse and TikTok creator known online as “Nurse Solomon,” has died after he was shot during an alleged robbery in Oakland, California.
The 33-year-old healthcare professional was killed on May 31 while walking toward his car near 14th Street and Harrison Street, according to authorities. Solomon’s death has left family members, friends, patients and social media followers mourning a man they described as compassionate, dedicated and committed to helping others.
The Alameda County District Attorney's Office announced that Shacory Carnell Daniels, 39, was charged in connection with the alleged robbery and shooting.
Prosecutors said Daniels faces charges including murder, an attempted robbery-related felony, personal and intentional discharge of a firearm, and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. He was arrested on June 4 in Menlo Park, according to reports, and is scheduled to appear in court on June 30.
According to Solomon’s family, he and a friend were leaving a nightclub and heading toward their vehicles when a person approached and demanded a chain around his neck.
Solomon’s mother, Florence Edward, told local media that her son was willing to give up the item during the confrontation.
His friend later told the family that he heard gunshots after walking toward his own vehicle.
Solomon’s brother, Emmanuel Solomon, said his brother was fearful of guns, making the circumstances surrounding his death especially painful.
“He was scared of guns,” Emmanuel said. “For him to die of gun violence, that’s sad and really tough for us.”
Originally from Ghana, Solomon moved to Oakland and later studied at Samuel Merritt University before becoming a registered nurse.
He worked at healthcare facilities including Alameda Healthcare and Wellness Center and Kindred Hospital in San Leandro. His family described nursing as his calling and said he dedicated himself to caring for others.
Outside of his medical career, Solomon gained attention on TikTok as “Nurse Solomon,” where he shared health advice and conversations about medicine and everyday wellness. His content earned thousands of followers and more than a million views.
A fundraiser created for funeral expenses and support for his 11-year-old daughter and father described Solomon as someone who used his platform to educate and empower people.
“He was passionate about educating people on their health and empowering them to make informed decisions about their well-being,” organizers wrote.
Loved ones said Solomon was known for his kindness, patience and ability to make people feel valued. They also remembered him as a devoted father who always made time for his family despite his busy schedule.
Nana Ekua Solomon, his sister-in-law, said his online work was driven by passion rather than financial gain.
“What Lartey was doing online wasn’t for financial reasons, it was his passion,” she said. “We want his legacy to still live.”
Family members said Solomon’s death has created an unimaginable loss for those who knew him, including his daughter, parents, siblings, patients and the many people he inspired through healthcare and social media.
