Shania Twain reveals she took dieting too far during difficult menopause journey
The country star reflects on body acceptance after a challenging personal journey
Shania Twain has opened up about one of the most challenging periods of her life, revealing that she pushed herself into unhealthy habits while struggling with body changes during menopause.
The 60-year-old country music superstar admitted that she became deeply unhappy with her changing body and stopped looking in the mirror during her Las Vegas residency in 2019.
The “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” singer explained that menopause affected her confidence as the methods she had previously used to maintain her figure no longer worked the same way.
“I stopped looking at myself in the mirror. I hated my body,” Twain admitted. “I’m like, ‘Oh, I cannot stand this changing body.’”
Determined to lose weight, Twain said she drastically reduced fats and sugars from her diet and increased her workouts, but later realized she had pushed herself too far.
“I was malnourished,” she revealed. “I was doing very unhealthy things and working my body more than I was feeding it.”
The singer said the extreme routine eventually affected her health, including worsening a thigh injury and slowing down her recovery. The experience became a turning point, forcing her to change the way she viewed her body and health.
Today, Twain says she has learned to accept herself and embrace the changes that come with life.
“Bring on the mirrors,” she joked. “I’m going to look at myself all day long!”
The “You’re Still the One” singer believes menopause taught her an important lesson about accepting what cannot be controlled and focusing on self-confidence rather than chasing perfection.
Despite reaching 60, Twain says she has no plans to slow down. The music icon continues to approach life with curiosity and excitement, saying there are always new experiences waiting to be discovered.
