Prince William and Princess Kate attend historic Royal Ascot horse racing
Kensington Palace releases a social media video of the royal couple at horse racing event
Prince William and Princess Kate presented the winner's trophy for The Prince of Wales’s Stakes on Wednesday during their high-profile appearance at the Royal Ascot horse racing event. Kensington Palace marked the occasion by releasing a dedicated video online focusing entirely on the couple's activities at the racecourse.
A brief statement accompanying the footage posted on social media noted that the royal couple was "Delighted to present the trophy for The Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot."
The traditional sporting event, which has been held in the United Kingdom since 1711, originally began on Tuesday in London. Media outlets reported that King Charles III and Queen Camilla also attended the opening leg of the historic races.
Balances duties during health recovery
The high-profile appearance stands in contrast to the previous year, when Kate Middleton pulled out from a planned attendance at Royal Ascot. Royal sources stated at the time that she was carefully trying to find the right balance as she fully returned to public engagements.
The initial caution followed an intense period of medical care for the senior royal. The Princess of Wales was diagnosed with cancer in 2024. In September of that same year, she publicly shared that she had completed her chemotherapy treatment.
