Jamie Campbell Bower opens up after 'The Rings of Power' casting reveal

Jamie Campbell Bower has officially been confirmed as Celeborn in the third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, ending months of speculation about his role in the hit fantasy series.

The Stranger Things star will portray the Elf Lord and husband of Galadriel, played by Morfydd Clark, in the upcoming season, which is set during the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron.

The casting announcement was confirmed by Empire magazine, with Bower describing Celeborn as a romantic figure shaped by love and longing.

“This idea of longing and yearning is so pervasive in Tolkien’s relationship with Edith for the time that they were apart,” Bower said.

“Celeborn has had to find a way to survive whilst longing for something that he so dearly loved and so dearly missed as well.”

The role was previously portrayed by Marton Csokas in Peter Jackson’s original The Lord of the Rings film trilogy.

Clark also praised Bower’s casting, saying he perfectly matches her vision of the iconic character.

“She’s kind of rude to him in the books. She’s the queen! But Jamie looks exactly like how I would imagine Celeborn. He’s such an Elf,” she said.

According to the official synopsis, season three takes place as Sauron seeks to forge the One Ring, hoping to gain the advantage needed to conquer Middle-earth.

Bower recently wrapped his acclaimed run as Henry Creel, also known as Vecna, in the fifth and final season of Stranger Things. Speaking about that role, the actor revealed he drew inspiration from cult leader Jim Jones while developing the character’s latest incarnation, Mr. WhatsIt.

He explained that Jones' speeches influenced aspects of his performance, particularly the language used to create a sense of unity and control among followers.

With Stranger Things coming to an end, Bower is now set to make his debut in one of television’s biggest fantasy franchises as the long-awaited arrival of Celeborn.
