Matt Damon teases 'really special' sci-fi project from 'Everything Everywhere' directors
The Oscar winner described his upcoming science fiction film as 'a really special project' ahead of its 2027 release
Matt Damon has shared the unconventional pitch that convinced him to join an upcoming untitled science fiction film from the Oscar-winning directors behind Everything Everywhere All at Once.
The 55-year-old actor recalled hearing the concept for the Universal Pictures project during an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, where he described the filmmakers' memorable elevator pitch.
According to Damon, directing duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert – collectively known as Daniels – introduced the film by blending together a string of unlikely influences.
"The way they pitched it to me was: if The Breakfast Club meets Inception meets an anime film meets an episode of The John Oliver Show that didn't get aired," Damon recalled.
He added that fans of the directors' Academy Award-winning film should expect a similar balance of imagination and emotion.
"So, if you liked Everything Everywhere All at Once and all the wildness and all the heart, I think you'll really like this one," he said.
Calling the production "a really special project," Damon expressed enthusiasm for the ambitious sci-fi feature, which boasts a star-studded ensemble cast.
According to Variety, the untitled film also stars Charles Melton, Sean Kaufman, PinkPantheress, Sandra Oh, Michael Gandolfini, Jackson Kelly, Silvia Dionicio, Thalia Dudek and Kerrice Brooks.
The Universal Pictures release is currently scheduled to arrive in cinemas on November 19, 2027, after its original June 2027 release date was pushed back.
