Nolan's 'The Odyssey' remains box office champion in week two
Nolan's latest epic has already reached an estimated $283 million domestically after only two weekends
Christopher Nolan's epic The Odyssey continued its impressive box office run, holding firmly at the top of the North American charts with a strong second weekend performance.
The Universal Pictures blockbuster earned $25.9 million on Friday and is projected to collect $84.5 million over the weekend, marking just a 32% decline from its outstanding $124 million domestic debut.
The film's domestic total is expected to reach approximately $283 million after two weekends, cementing its status as one of the biggest releases of the year.
The Odyssey had already made headlines during its opening weekend by grossing $264.1 million worldwide, giving Nolan the biggest global debut of his career.
The filmmaker's previous record-holder was The Dark Knight Rises, which opened to $249 million globally in 2012.
With its current momentum, the nearly three-hour, adult-oriented drama is now on track to challenge The Dark Knight Rises as the highest-grossing film of Nolan's career.
Elsewhere at the box office, the theatrical presentation of Hadestown: The Musical debuted in second place, earning $4 million on Friday and heading towards an estimated $9 million opening weekend.
Disney's live-action Moana placed third after taking in $3.1 million on Friday. The remake is projected to earn $10.8 million during its third weekend, lifting its domestic total to around $102 million.
Despite crossing the $100 million mark, the film has struggled to justify its reported $250 million production budget.
Toy Story 5 remained in fourth place with $2.9 million on Friday and is expected to finish the weekend with $10.1 million, bringing its domestic total to $448.6 million after six weekends.
The animated sequel is also on course to surpass the $1 billion milestone worldwide.
Rounding out the top five was Minions & Monsters, which earned $2.8 million on Friday and is projected to collect $9.5 million over the weekend.
The Universal animated feature has now amassed roughly $155 million domestically and continues to perform steadily after four weeks in cinemas.
