Cooper Hoffman says intimate scenes with Olivia Wilde were ‘really funny’

Cooper Hoffman has admitted he could not stop laughing while filming some of the intimate scenes with Olivia Wilde in their upcoming film I Want Your Sex, describing the experience as awkward but surprisingly fun.

The 23-year-old actor stars as Elliott, a recent college graduate who begins a complicated relationship with Wilde’s provocative artist character, Erika Tracy, in Gregg Araki’s new dramedy, which arrives in theaters on July 31.

Speaking to People, Hoffman said the film’s more unconventional scenes often left him and his co-stars laughing.

“You have to laugh,” Hoffman said, recalling moments that felt too surreal to take seriously.

He specifically remembered one scene involving Wilde, joking, “Literally, Olivia shoving panties into my mouth. It’s just all like, it’s really funny.”

Hoffman explained that filming such scenes was even more unusual because he barely knew his co-stars before production began.

“It’s funny that you have to do it with people that you’ve never met before,” he said, noting he had only met Wilde a handful of times before shooting started.

Despite the film’s challenging material, Hoffman and co-star Chase Sui Wonders praised Wilde for helping create a relaxed and professional atmosphere on set.

They also credited intimacy coordinator Yehuda Duenyas for ensuring everyone felt comfortable throughout filming.

“Olivia’s character is so confident... Cooper and I just got to be like, ‘Yes. Yes, ma’am,’” Wonders said, adding that Wilde’s confidence helped put the cast at ease.

Hoffman also applauded Duenyas for his detailed guidance during intimate scenes, saying the coordinator's expertise removed any uncertainty and helped the actors approach every sequence with confidence.

I Want Your Sex is set to open in theaters on July 31.
