Shania Twain reveals the secret behind her happy marriage to Frédéric Thiébaud
The Grammy-winning says husband Frédéric Thiébaud is her 'forever true love'
Shania Twain is opening up about the relationship that helped her find love again, describing husband Frédéric Thiébaud as her “forever true love” and crediting honest communication for the strength of their marriage.
The 60-year-old singer reflected on her relationship in a new interview with People, saying she believes Thiébaud is the person she was always meant to grow old with.
“[He is my] forever true love,” Twain said. “This is the love I’m going to grow old with and it’s a beautiful feeling.”
She added that she believes their bond would have lasted even if they had met much earlier in life.
“If I had met Fred as a teenager, I do believe that he would have been my lifelong love even from then,” she said. “It just takes sometimes years to find that person.”
Twain’s comments come years after a painful chapter in her personal life.
In 2008, her 14-year marriage to music producer Robert “Mutt” Lange ended after his affair with her close friend and former personal assistant, Marie-Anne Thiébaud.
During that difficult period, Twain found support in Marie-Anne’s former husband, Frédéric Thiébaud, and the pair eventually fell in love before marrying in 2011.
Looking back on their relationship, the Grammy-winning star praised her husband for encouraging open and honest conversations.
“He’s really good at reminding both of us that we have to keep communication open,” Twain said.
“He’s the greatest talker, and he’s not inhibited at all with expressing his feelings, which is really wonderful in a man.”
She added that while she prefers to process disagreements quietly by meditating, taking a walk or spending time alone with her guitar, Thiébaud believes in discussing issues immediately.
“Fred wants to talk about it. He wants to talk it through, and he wants to fix it,” she said. “That’s the best advice. He’s not wrong.”
Twain has also previously shared her thoughts on love, describing it as a leap of faith that requires vulnerability.
“I think love is a scary thing and it’s all about risk,” she said in an earlier interview with The Sun.
“Sometimes love is such a strong attraction you just can’t help yourself. You just have to be vulnerable.”
