Kristin Chenoweth celebrates adoption anniversary ‘I’m so blessed’

Kristin Chenoweth is marking a deeply personal milestone, celebrating 58 years since she was adopted by her parents, Jerry and Junie Chenoweth.

The Wicked star took to Instagram on July 30 to commemorate what she affectionately calls her “gotcha day,” sharing a heartfelt tribute alongside a collection of family photos spanning decades.

“Yesterday was my GOTCHA DAY (it’s not just for pets!!) The day my parents brought me home 58 years ago and I became a Chenoweth,” she wrote.

Expressing gratitude for the life her parents gave her, Chenoweth added, “I’m so blessed and grateful for this beautiful life they gave me. I love you, mom and dad!!”

The post featured several cherished moments with Jerry and Junie, including photos of them supporting her career, attending her Broadway Bootcamp program in Oklahoma and sharing an emotional moment on her wedding day to husband Josh Bryant in September 2023.

Friends and fans quickly filled the comments section with messages of support, with Ricki Lake writing, “I love you!” while actress Cecily Strong responded with heart emojis.

Chenoweth has long spoken openly about her adoption and has often credited her parents for shaping her life.

In a 2015 essay written for National Adoption Day, she revealed she had always known she was adopted and said her parents never kept it a secret.

“I knew that my birth mother loved me so much that she wanted to give me a better life,” she wrote at the time.

She also shared that Jerry and Junie explained her adoption by telling her, “We chose you,” a message she described as a beautiful way to reassure an adopted child.

Reflecting on her biological family, Chenoweth said she has learned some details about her birth parents over the years but considers Jerry and Junie to be her true parents.

“I have my parents,” she wrote, adding that she would thank her birth mother for making “such a huge sacrifice.”

The Tony Award-winning performer has frequently honoured her adoptive parents on social media, including heartfelt Mother's Day and Father's Day tributes earlier this year, calling her father “literally the best dad in the world.”
