Gayle King is an American television personality, author and broadcast journalist for CBS News.

King, who spent her childhood in Ankara, Turkey, graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a degree in psychology.

Soon after her graduation, she kicked off her career as a production assistant at the WJZ-TV in Baltimore where she rubbed shoulders with the popular host Oprah Winfrey.

King relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, where she worked as a weekend anchor and a general assignment reporter.

In 1981, King got a huge offer and was hired for a news anchor position in WFSB located in Hartford, Connecticut.

As far as her career in CBS news is concerned, King worked as a special columnist for Good Morning America.

She added a new feather to her cap with her Blue Origin’s all-female flight team to space on April 14, 2025.

However, what became the center of attention was King’s weight loss journey and her partnership with Weight Watchers that focused on her sustainable habits and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

It is worth noting, Gayle king and Oprah Winfrey are friends.

In a 2010 interview with Barbara Walters, Winfrey heaped praise over the actress, calling her ‘mother.’

On the personal front, Gayle King married William Bumpus, a famous attorney in Connecticut. Both share two kids — daughter Kirby, and a son William Bumpus Jr.
