Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, was known for his sharp wit and short temper but also for his kindness and dedication to his family.

In his personal life, he was a devoted husband and loyal supporter of the late Queen Elizabeth II, often described as her strength and stay. Despite his sometimes gruff exterior, he knew how to show immense kindness and affection.

Philip renounced his Greek and Danish titles to become a British subject, adopting his mother’s surname, Mountbatten.

He had a wide range of interests, including yachting, polo, carriage driving, and flying, excelling in each field. Most notably, he was the patron and president of over 780 organizations, including the World Wide Fund for Nature. He also served as chairman of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, a youth program for individuals aged 14 to 24.

On November 20, 1947, Prince Philip married Queen Elizabeth II in front of 2,000 guests, marking what became the longest royal marriage in history. Spanning the late monarch’s 70-year reign, their union was built on deep love and mutual support. Their wedding, held at Westminster Abbey, was broadcast globally on the radio.

Prince Philip was a devoted father to four children: King Charles III, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, and Princess Anne.

Philip passed away on April 9, 2021, at Windsor Castle, United Kingdom, at the age of 99.
