'Hell's Kitchen' by Alicia Keys will take the Broadway stage on April 20, 2024
Hell’s Kitchen, an epic musical by Alicia Keys, is making its way to Broadway this spring.
According to Variety, the musical will run through at the Public Theatre till January 14, 2024 and then head towards Shubert Theatre on Broadway with its opening night in April 20, 2024.
The Girl On Fire crooner took to her official Instagram account to post a video of her Hell’s Kitchen musical with the caption, “Hell’s Kitchen is coming to BROADWAY. Oh SHIT!!@hellskitchenbway.”
The musical revolves around, Ali, a 17-year-old living in a small flat perched above Times Square, and is frantic to live the New York dream.
Meanwhile, Ali's mother is as committed to shielding her daughter from her own faults.
Both, mother and daughter are forced to confront the uncomfortable realities about racism, rebellion, and growing up, however Ali develops feelings for a gifted young drummer, after the sound of a piano playing in his home opens the door to an unexpected friendship and a drastically different future.
About 'Hell’s Kitchen':
The musical is centered around Alicia Keys’ life, her journey and struggles as well as her upbringing in Hell’s Kitchen in New York.
In an official statement to Variety the singer said, “Good things take time and for 13 years, I’ve been dreaming, developing and finding inspiration for a musical based on my experience growing up in Hell’s Kitchen, NYC. ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ is inspired by my life, but it’s not a biographical story. It’s a story about family relationships and identity: Who are we? Who do we want to be? Who are we becoming?”
“The score features new songs that I’m really excited to get out into the world alongside many of my album releases that you know but you’ve never heard like this – rearranged and reinterpreted,” she further noted.
Hell’s Kitchen features music supervision by Adam Blackstone, music consulting by Tom Kitt and was directed by Michael Greif.
