'Game of Thrones' writer George R.R Martin hints at animated spinoff
'Game of Thrones' animated series was announced by author George R.R. Martin on December 31, 2023

Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin dropped the news about his upcoming projects while he praised the Netflix series, Blue Eye Samurai in a new blog post uploaded on December 31, 2023.
As reported by Variety, the Game of Thrones or GOT creator was inspired by the recent screening of Amber Noizumi and Michael Green’s Netflix animated series.
The American novelist said, “Blue Eye Samurai’s’ very much its own thing, and it is magnificent. Even if you don’t normally watch animation, give it a try. It’s terrific. If you like my own stuff, I think you’ll love it.”

“As it happens, HBO and I have our own animated projects, set in the world of A Song Of Ice & Fire. None of them have been greenlit yet, but I think we are getting close to taking the next step with a couple of them,” the writer further penned revealing his own plans for an upcoming animated project.
Variety broke the news of a Game of Thrones animated series back in 2021 where Martin stated that there were four upcoming animated projects out of which two were “shelved.”
The father of Westeros also announced that his Sea Snake series would also be developed as an animation too.

“We have moved Nine Voyages, our series about the legendary voyages of the Sea Snake, over from live action to animation. A move I support fully,” his blog read.
Reflecting on the restriction of resources he further stated, “Budgetary constraints would likely have made a live action version prohibitively expensive, what with half the show taking place at sea, and the necessity of creating a different port every week, from Driftmark to Lys to the Basilisk Isles to Volantis to Qarth to… well, on and on and on.”
“There’s a whole world out there. And we have a lot better chance of showing it all with animation. So we now have three animated projects underway,” he announced.
However other details regarding the titles and the plotline of the upcoming animated series is still a concealed secret.
To note, Flea Bottom and 10,000 Ships series are amongst many of the Game of Thrones spinoff projects that have been reported.
Last April, Variety covered the news of the development of a prequel revolving around GOT’s Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros and the A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight series.
