Prince William has penned sad news on wife Kate Middleton's 42nd birthday.

The Prince of Wales shared a tribute to Welsh rugby legend JPR Williams, who passed away on Monday at age 74.

Taking to X (formerly known as X), William wrote, “There was no one quite like him on the rugby field. A true @WelshRugbyUnion great, my thoughts are with JPR Williams’ family and friends. W…Roedd e’n gymeriad unigryw ar y cae rygbi. Un o wir fawrion @WelshRugbyUnion, mae fy meddyliau gyda theulu a chyfeillion JPR Williams. W.”

The Welsh Rugby Union honored the late player, who was best known as “one of the greatest Welsh players of all time."

Bridgend Ravens, a football club he played for and served as club president of until his death, announced his death on Monday.

The Associated Press remembered “his fearlessness and swashbuckling attacking style” on the field in the 1970s.

His family gave a statement To BBC, "JPR died peacefully today at the University Hospital of Wales surrounded by his loving wife and four children, after a short illness, bravely battling bacterial meningitis. The family request privacy at this difficult time."

Furthermore, the royal family shared a special wish for Kate on her birthday.

The official account of the royal family posted a picture of the princess from King Charles's coronation in May 2023 and wrote, “Wishing The Princess of Wales a very happy birthday today!”

Royal expert Ingrid Seward shared insights into the likely birthday plans, suggesting that Kate might head back to her childhood village to mark the occasion.

“Family life has always been central for the Princess of Wales and she loves an excuse to celebrate. Her 42nd birthday - her second as Princess of Wales - is a good reason to do so, but no details will be released. Traditionally the royals only celebrate milestone birthdays with the public so we might have to wait until Catherine is 45,” she said.
