Greta Gerwig has revealed that she is “intimidated” to direct Narnia after the success of Barbie.

Her summer blockbuster received 1.442 billion USD at the global box office.

During a conversation on BBC Radio 4’s Today, the Little Women director admitted that she is “slightly” terrified to direct C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia.

Greta shared, “I’m slightly in the place of terror because I really do have such reverence for Narnia. I loved Narnia so much as a child. As an adult, C.S. Lewis is a thinker and a writer. I’m intimidated by doing this. It’s something that feels like a worthy thing to be intimidated by. As a non-British person, I feel a particular sense of wanting to do it correctly.”

She added, “it’s like when Americans do Shakespeare, there’s a slight feeling of reverence and as if maybe we should treat it with extra care. It is not our countryman…I haven’t even really started wrapping my arms around it. But I’m properly scared of it, which feels like a good place to start. I think when I’m scared, it’s always a good sign.”

Recently, Greta’s Barbie won Golden Globe Award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award at the Golden Globe.

The Lady Bird filmmaker also noted that after the revival of The Chronicles of Narnia, she will be working on more creative movies.

“I hope to make all different kinds of movies in the course of the time I get to make movies, which – it’s a long time, but it’s also limited. I want to do big things and small things and everywhere in between, and having another big canvas is exciting and also daunting,” she continued.
