Quinta Brunson secured the Outstanding Lead Actress in a comedy for 'Abbot Elementary' at 2023 Emmys

Quinta Brunson made history by becoming the first Black woman in 42 years to win the honor of Outstanding Lead Actress in a comedy for Abbot Elementary at the 2023 Emmy Awards, held on Monday.
As reported by PEOPLE, Brunson expressed gratitude over making Abbot Elementary and poured love on her family, while getting emotional in a heartfelt speech.
The Miracle Workers actress began her acceptance speech with, "Thank you so much just I don’t know why I’m so emotional, I think just like, the Carol Burnett of it all, thank you so much I love making Abbott Elementary so much."

She went on to say, "And I am so happy to be able to live my dream and act out comedy, and I say it every time and I just love comedy so much that I am so happy to be able to get this."

Showing love for her family, the Cars on the Road actress said, "I didn’t prepare anything because I just didn't think... Oh god. I love my mom, my dad. My sisters, my brothers. My entire family so much. I love my husband. I'm so happy. I love my cast. Oh, I love Abbott Elementary. Thank you so much."
The 34-year-old actress secured the award after competing against nominees like Christina Applegate, Rachel Brosnahan, Natasha Lyonne, and Jenna Ortega.
Brunson, who was honored along with Ayo Edebiri's win, marked the first time two Black actresses won both comedy categories in the same year.
