Jennifer Lopez’s new film, This Is Me… Now: A Love Story, director, Dave Meyers revealed the creative reason behind not revealing the artist’s husband, Ben Affleck’s face, in the movie.

Meyers told PEOPLE that not showing Affleck’s face clearly was a creative decision he and Lopez made in order to highlight the personal growth the star gained.

“We did hem and haw on the opening scene, but we really did not want to end it with, the whole journey of love was just to get back to Ben,” the This Is Me… Now: A Love Story director said.

“That was purposeful, because everything Jen was telling me was about her own personal maturity and what she’s gone through and learned about herself. That’s the thing that people will mostly relate to,” Meyers added.

The Oscar-winning actor and director does appear in the movie which is inspired by Lopez’s love story with Ben Affleck, however not in the usual way an actor would make their on-screen appearance.

In the Amazon original motion picture, Affleck’s cameos are brief; in some scenes, his face is covered in mystery, and in others, he shows up in disguise as a newscaster named, Rex Stone.

In This Is Me…Now: A Love Story, viewers see a fictionalized version of Lopez going through various stages of her life over the last 20 years as she finds her way in life emerging through three failed marriages and toxic relationships.
