Bluesky to get rival X-like blue check verification
Social network Bluesky has introduced a new verification system featuring a blue checkmark, similar to the rival X (formerly Twitter) system.
According to changes in the app's public GitHub repository, the platform will allow multiple organisations to distribute blue checks, rather than relying solely on Bluesky to verify accounts.
This means that Bluesky will not only verify notable accounts directly but also designate certain organisations as "trusted verifiers" that can issue blue checks themselves.
Bluesky users will be able to see which organisations have granted verification by tapping on a user's blue check.
It should be noted that the blue checkmark icon will feature a blue circle with a white checkmark, while trusted verifiers will have a distinct blue circle with a white checkmark on their profiles.
For instance, news publishers such as The New York Times might be among the trusted verifiers.
It is worth mentioning that Bluesky's approach contrasts with X's verification system, which was overhauled by CEO Elon Musk to require a monthly subscription for verification.
Various critics have argued that X's system has diluted the value of the blue check, allowing some bot accounts to be verified.
