Penn Badgley's baffling take on his 'You' character through the years: Read more
Penn Badgley did not seem to enjoy seven years of 'You'

Joe Goldberg was the on-screen name of Penn Badgley in the recently-concluded Netflix show, You and he was mostly seen killing people as his role was of a serial killer in the hit TV series.
Despite his appearance as Joe on the show for the past seven years, Penn has expressed his dislike of his character multiple times in the past few years.
In December 2019, he shared, "There's a lot I don't enjoy about him. To be honest, I don't enjoy nearly everything about him. However, it ends up being a deep, deep psychological exploration for me. And it seems to bear fruit. There's a lot about him that I struggle with and yet I'm always trying to humanise him as much as possible."
This statement of his, was a part of a press conference before the release of season two of You.
Another statement he gave to EW after the release of season two goes something like this, "Joe is not actually looking for true love. He’s not actually a person who just needs somebody who loves him."
He continued, "He’s a murderer! He’s a sociopath. He’s abusive. He’s delusional. And he’s self-obsessed. You can’t fool yourself into thinking that he just needs somebody who’s right for him. Nobody’s right for him!"
As of recently, according to The Guardian, Penn wanted to make his character "less likeable."
"I’ve always wanted to make him less likeable at every turn that is possible and plausible, and in this moment, I actually don’t know what to say about that,” he spoke to the outlet.
For the unversed, all seasons of You are available on Netflix.
