Prince William, Kate Middleton’s absence at this year’s BAFTAs explained

Prince William and Kate Middleton take great pride in their association with the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and they show it by attending the prestigious ceremony more often than not.

However, this year was a no-show from the Prince and Princess of Wales as the ceremony was forced to convene without them.

They reportedly missed out on the event because the royal couple were on a holiday with their children while the awards ceremony was being filmed, back in February.

Princes George and Louis, and their sister Princess Charlotte, joined their parents on vacation at the Caribbean island of Mustique as the British film fraternity gathered in London’s Royal Festival Hall to pre-record the ceremony which was recently televised.

Moreover, Kensington Palace had confirmed the Waleses’ absence on February 10.

Last year, while the future king marked his attendance at the BAFTAs, Princess Kate had to stay home due to her battle with cancer at the time.

Although, back in January, multiple reports revealed that the British film academy did everything they could to ensure the future queen’s presence this year.

Daily Mail reported that the BAFTA extended their “warmest wishes” when Kate “revealed her cancer diagnosis” and hoped that “she will appear alongside William in what will be her big showbiz return since she’s been in recovery.”

Despite their best efforts, however, it would appear that it was not meant to be as the latest BAFTA TV Awards took place yesterday, May 11, without the Prince and Princess in attendance.

Meanwhile, Prince William has long served as the president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), starting in 2010, while Kate Middleton has served as her husband’s date ever since their marriage in 2011.
