Princess Diana's wedding: lessons to learn from grand event

It’s been 44 years since King Charles and Princess Diana tied a knot at a wedding that continues to be remembered as one of the most grandest and unforgettable royal celebrations of all time.
The ceremony which was held in London, at St Paul's Cathedral on July 29, 1981, saw the then Prince Charles and Princess Diana get married as millions around the world watched one of the biggest moments go down in history.
Despite the extravagant event, their marriage was short lived as they separated in 1992 and divorce in 1996, just a year before Diana’s unfortunate passing.
Although the ceremony seemed perfect to the public, there were more things happening behind the scenes that met the eye.
Before their picture perfect event, there were some events that occurred that will likely leave royal fans shocked.
Perfume Spill

As Princess Diana stepped into St Paul's Cathedral, oozing elegance in her David and Elizabeth Emanuel wedding gown, she had applied one of her favourite scents, Quelques Fleurs.
However, her iconic outfit made from ivory silk taffeta with 10,000 mother-of-pearl sequins, was met with a minor mishap as reportedly she had accidentally spilt perfume on it, right before she walked down the aisle.
As per her make-up artist Barbara Daly, the young royal bride, who at the time was only 20-year-old, had accidentally knocked over the perfume bottle while trying to dab some on her wrists after getting dressed, spilling its liquid all over her gown.
But it seems like this wasn’t the only wedding disaster the young royal had faced on her special day.
Dress Alteration

As the wedding day came closer, the Designer Elizabeth Emanuel shared that the princess figure noticeably changed, referring to her significant weight loss.
She went on to reveal that the young bride-to-be had gone down to a 23-inch waist from a 26- to 27-inch, which is why her dress needed to be altered.
Creased Gown

Despite its breathtaking design, Diana’s dress appeared to be wrinkled and creased by the time she arrived at the venue, stepping out of the horse-drawn carriage at the cathedral.
In a statement given to The Mirror, the designer shared that she was worried that this was going to give a negative impression of her and her brand.
"We knew it wasn’t going to stay creased but it was still horrible. I thought, ‘Oh my God, my career is finished," she expressed.
Talking to Daily Mail, she opened up, "In the tiny carriage, it had crumpled far more than we’d anticipated. We’d done a rehearsal, but not with her father, Earl Spencer, in the car, too and he was quite a large man."
Continuing, "It was a hot day, there was so much volume in the net and she was nervous, so she kept grabbing hold of it in her hands. Fortunately, we knew the fabric would pull out."
Wedding Nerves: Takes Wrong Name in Vows

Apart from her outfit disasters, there was another major mistake that occurred during the ceremony.
As she began to say her vows, Diana’s nerves seemed to overpower and take hold of her, leading to a flustered moment.
To everyone’s surprise, it was revealed by BBC that the late Royal had called her husband by the wrong name.
During the ceremony she mixed up Charles’ first name and middle name in a moment of nervous tension and called him Charles Philip Charles Arthur George instead of his actual name Charles Philip Arthur George.
