‘Stranger Things’ stars reveal future plans after season five premieres
Co-stars Finn Wolfhard and Gaten Matarazzo share what’s ahead for them
Finn Wolfhard and Gaten Matarazzo, who shot to fame with Netflix’s Stranger Things, have now revealed where they see their career post the end of their hit show.
As final season of the nostalgic sci-fi epic premieres later this year, Radio Times caught up with the co-stars at Tokyo’s 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards last Saturday, May 25.
Wolfhard was the first to reveal, “There’s loads I want to do. I want to direct more films.”
He previously made his directorial debut with the 2023 horror/comedy film Hell of a Summer.
“I would also love to do a voiceover where people don’t know it’s me. I feel like every time I’ve done a voice in something, it’s my own voice,” he laughed.
As for his “dream” voice acting job, the Canadian actor and musician shared, “To be in a dub for a Miyazaki film? That would be like a dream.”
He further cited Robert Pattinson’s performance in Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron, saying, “What Robert Pattinson did last year was pretty amazing. Totally changed his voice. Doing something like that would be so fun.”
Meanwhile, his friend and co-star Matarazzo shared his plans about hopefully getting to do more “character work”.
“I think a lot of weird, deeper character work would be really, really fun,” he said.
Going on to name the artist who inspired him the most, the 22-year-old revealed, “My inspo for sure is Andy Serkis and everything he does. He is one of the most talented, most expressive, most innovative performers that’s alive right now, that’s known for becoming not human several times, which seems like it would be absolutely terrifying, but so much fun.”
Notably, Andy Serkis is a veteran English performer, who is best known for playing the ape called Caesar in the most recent reboot series of Planet of the Apes.
Ahead of Stranger Things’ conclusion this year, Wolfhard showed appreciation for his time on the series and added, “I’m proud of what ‘Stranger Things’ has brought to people and just proud of being a part of that show and being a part of a great cast.”
Finn Wolfhard and Gaten Matarazzo will pair up once again for season five of Stranger Things, scheduled for a 2025 release, though a final release date is not known at the moment.
