Sam Altman collaborates with renowned composer for AI-powered music project

In a remarkable breakthrough, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is collaborating with Indian music legend and two-time Oscar winner AR Rahman on a unique project that blends artificial intelligence (AI) with global music creation.

Titled Secret Mountain, the initiative is part of Rahman’s broader vision to use AI tools in artistic expression, cultural exchange, and talent empowerment, particularly in India.

Rahman recently met Altman at OpenAI’s offices, where the two discussed how AI could reshape the future of music.

Their meeting, documented in a photo Rahman shared on Instagram, highlighted their shared ambition to build technology that supports creativity rather than replaces it.

“We discussed ‘Secret Mountain’, our virtual global band, and how to empower and uplift Indian minds to use AI tools to address generational challenges,” Rahman wrote in his post.

Secret Mountain, introduced through a YouTube video released on February 14, 2024, is a virtual band featuring artists from around the world, including India, China, Ireland, and Africa.

The video features a fictional character named Luna who travels through a surreal, AI-generated metaverse to meet musicians from different cultures.

Altman’s involvement marks a notable expansion of OpenAI’s influence into creative industries, showcasing how AI can serve as a tool for global cultural connection.
