DOGE to use AI tool to eliminate federal regulations
The US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is deploying a new artificial intelligence (AI) tool, aimed at drastically reducing federal government’s regulatory mandates.
According to The Washington Post report citing a July 1 PowerPoint presentation, the DOGE AI Deregulation Decision Tool is designed to analyse around 200,000 federal regulations and identify the ones that are outdated or no longer required by the law.
It should be noted that the department’s goal is to eliminate half of the regulations within the first year of US President Donald Trump’s return to office.
Currently, the AI tool is in the development process.
However, the presentation declared that the tool has already been applied to review regulations at the Department of Housing and Urban Development and even used to write “100% of deregulations” at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
While no formal plan has yet been approved, a White House spokesperson noted that DOGE’s work is highly regarded.
“No single plan has been approved or greenlit, but the DOGE team is the best and brightest in the business,” the spokesperson noted.
This tool is part of a broader suite of AI technologies being tested by DOGE.
Under the early leadership of tech billionaire Elon Musk, the department experimented with another tool to evaluate Veterans Affairs contracts, though that model was criticised for producing errors and “hallucinated” data.
