It’s not easy for actors to admit the failure or shortcomings of their characters, as they often feel a sense of ownership and loyalty toward their projects.

However, many celebrities today prefer to keep things transparent and don’t hesitate to admit when they’re not proud of their previous work.

Here is the list of actors who didn’t enjoy playing certain characters- take a look:

1. Shia LaBeouf as Mutt in 'Indiana Jones':

Shia LaBeouf played Mutt in the 2008 film Indiana Jones, and he shared that he doesn’t think he did his best work.

"I feel like I dropped the ball on the legacy that people loved and cherished," he told the LA Times.

The actor admitted that it was his mistake that he couldn’t bring the character to life.

"You get to monkey-swinging and things like that and you can blame it on the writer and you can blame it on Steven [Spielberg]. But the actor's job is to make it come alive and make it work, and I couldn't do it. So that's my fault. Simple,” Shia stated.

2. Blake Lively as Serena van der Woodsen in 'Gossip Girl':

In an interview with Allure, Blake Lively revealed that portraying such a privileged and troubled character on Gossip Girl was, at times, “personally compromising.”

"I would not be proud to be the person who gave someone the cocaine that made them overdose and then shot someone and slept with someone else's boyfriend,” she said.

The It Ends with Us costar added that, despite people receiving the character really well, she wished she had been putting a better message out there.

"The lines become blurred…It doesn't help when everybody is dating who they're dating on the show, and you're also saying to the costume designer, 'Hey, can I take that home?'" Blake further revealed.

3. Megan Fox as Mikaela in 'Transformers':

When Megan Fox was asked about appearing in the third installment of Transformers, she told Entertainment Weekly that “Sure. I mean, I can't s*** on this movie because it did give me a career and open all these doors for me. But I don't want to blow smoke up people's ass.”

She went on to say that people are well aware that Transformers is not a movie about acting.

“Once you realize that, it becomes almost fun because you can be in the moment and go, 'All right, I know that when he calls 'Action!' I'm either going to be running or screaming, or both,'" the actress stated.

Megan also later labelled Michael Bay, the director, a misogynistic and a “nightmare,” revealing that he once had her clean his Ferrari and placed her on a strict tanning regimen.

4. Brad Pitt as Rory in 'The Devil’s Own':

Brad Pitt had no hesitation in openly criticising the making of The Devil’s Own, calling the production a difficult and frustrating experience.

He described it as “the most irresponsible piece of film he’s ever seen.”

5. Cher as Tess Scali in 'Burlesque':

In 2013, Cher told The Guardian about the disappointment she felt starring in Burlesque.

“It could have been a much better film. It was always sad that it was not a good film,” she said.

Cher even called director Steve Antin a “really terrible director,” adding that he completely dismissed her input and objections.

6. Sarah Jessica Parker in 'Sex and the City 2':

Sarah Jessica Parker admitted that Sex and the City 2 wasn’t received as well as the series.

“I can see where we fall short. I understand, I actually get it. I will say, I also understand how much frikcin’ money it made. I feel like that is forgotten in the discussion,” she said.

7. Channing Tatum as G.I. Joe in 'G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra':

In an honest admission, Channing Tatum revealed on The Howard Stern Show that he hated G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra.

“I'll be honest. I f****** hate that movie. I was pushed into doing it. The script wasn’t any good,” he said.

The American actor added, “And I didn’t want to do something that I... that I was a fan of since I was a kid and watched every morning growing up—and didn't want to do something that was 1) bad, and 2) I just didn’t know if I wanted to be G.I. Joe."

8. Shailene Woodley as Amy Juergens in 'The Secret Life of the American Teenager':

Shailene Woodley played Amy Juergens for five years, but revealed that toward the end, the show’s storyline no longer aligned with her values – especially for shaming premarital sex.

"I had friends in high school who were pregnant. It felt like everything that I wanted to be sending into the world,” Shailene told Bustle in a 2020 interview.

9. Gwyneth Paltrow as Rosie in 'Shallow Hal':

Gwyneth revealed that the moment she put on the fat suit on to play Rosie in Shallow Hal, she realised how demoralizing and offensive the role was.

She regarded it as her least favourite role and called it a “disaster.”

10. George Clooney as Batman in 'Batman & Robin':

Lastly, we’ve got George Clooney, who doesn’t like his role in Batman & Robin because he believes the film was a “failure” and that he was a “terrible” actor in it.

“Let me just say that I’d actually thought I’d destroyed the franchise until somebody else brought it back years later and changed it. I thought at the time that this was going to be a very good career move. It wasn’t,” he explained.
