Jimmy Kimmel Live! has been taken off the air, but his famous peers and members of the public are keen to express their discontent with the decision by planning a staunch boycott of Disney — parent company of the network which previously broadcast the late night show, ABC.

The suspension occurred over Kimmel’s comments about Charlie Kirk’s shooting suspect being a MAGA ally, the umbrella term for supporters of President Trump, and soon spread to multiple media conglomerates under Disney, and those associated with ABC, complying with the decision.

According to Reuters, “Major media and tech companies are now controlled by Trump supporters or billionaire business leaders who lined up behind Trump during his inauguration, donated to his inaugural fund, or visited the White House bearing gifts.”

Where does the protest stand at this point? Keep reading to discover:

Public disapproval

The call for protest rose from among the people, many of whom proceeded to cancel their Disney subscriptions as well as their other associates, such as Hulu. Furthering the pressure, huge crowds took to the streets and protested against the ongoing censorship of media outside Disney HQ.

“As calls grew for boycotts against Disney and other companies involved in removing Kimmel from the air, an estimated 200 to 300 people protested outside Disney’s headquarters in Burbank on Thursday afternoon, in a demonstration that had been promoted by the Hollywood writers’ union, the Writers Guild of America, calling on ABC to ‘Bring Back Jimmy Kimmel Live!’” The Guardian reported.

Celebrity support

Following public upheaval, many celebrities also banded together to announce their own protest of Disney — some of whom are still under contract with the company or their affiliates, such as Marvel.

She-Hulk and Fantastic Four stars Tatiana Maslany and Pedro Pascal respectively, MCU’s Mark Ruffalo, Spider-Man’s Marisa Tomei, and more have voiced their support for Kimmel and the country’s free speech doctrine.

“It’s going to go down a lot further if they cancel his show. Disney does not want to be the ones that broke America,” Ruffalo shared in his thinly veiled warning on Threads.

Results so far

As of now, reports have emerged that Disney faced losses worth billions due to the advancing protests almost overnight.

While the details of the alleged financial dip are conflicting, as the company hasn’t gone on record, X (formerly Twitter) blog Culture Base has claimed that the ruins amount to a whopping $3.87 billion thus far.
