Colon cancer, also known as bowel cancer, is an abnormal growth of cells that begins in a part of the large intestine called the colon. It forms a tumour that can spread to other parts of the body if not detected early.
Here are the Hollywood stars who battled with it:
Audrey Hepburn
The iconic British actress, famous for her roles in classic films such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Roman Holiday, died in 1993 at the age of 63 after battling colon cancer.
She was diagnosed with the disease in 1992 and underwent treatment, but it was too late, as it had already spread to other parts of her body.
Morgan Freeman
One of the most celebrated actors in history, with a career spanning over five decades, was diagnosed with stage 1 colon cancer in 2010 at the age of 73.
Morgan underwent surgery to remove the tumour, and fortunately, the cancer did not spread.
He has spoken with full transparency about his experience with bowel cancer and has encouraged others to get their screenings regularly.
Katie Holmes
The former wife of Tom Cruise was diagnosed with stage 1 cervical cancer in 2014, three years after her mother passed away from breast cancer.

Music manager and television personality Sharon was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2002.

Alan Rickman
