Kate Middleton’s wedding to Prince William was a historic moment. Her beautiful bridal look became one of the most talked about royal beauty moments of all time.

For many years, rumors swirled that the Kate did her own makeup for the big day. But new revelations have finally set the record straight.

Here are some of the details about how Kate achieved her unforgettable wedding day look:

1. Kate didn’t actually do her own makeup

For more than a decade, the popular belief was that Kate took makeup lessons and applied her own cosmetics for the ceremony. However, makeup mogul Bobbi Brown has revealed otherwise.

“I didn’t do her makeup. I wish I did,” Brown, 68, shared on the Breaking Beauty podcast. “It was one of my artists, Hannah Martin, who’s become quite a sensation in the U.K.”

2. Bobbi Brown products were used

Although Brown’s brand was part of the look, she wasn’t the one holding the brushes that morning. “Hannah did her makeup,” Brown confirmed. She even recalled texting Martin in real time: “We were texting back and forth, and she’s like, ‘Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God.’ ”

3. The team stayed humble about it

When asked if her company tried to claim credit for the world-famous bridal look, Brown explained, “We didn’t as a company use it — no one did that back then. It wasn’t the right thing to do.”

Still, she treasures a note she keeps in her office from someone writing on Kate’s behalf, “saying how much she appreciated the makeup.”

4. Kate’s glam included trusted hair team

Apart from her flawless makeup, Kate’s hair was styled by James Pryce and Richard Ward of London’s Richard Ward.

“Catherine was very involved in her chosen style, and the bridal look was based on her own personal preference,” Ward told PEOPLE. “It was really a matter of getting a fine balance of feeling natural but also reflected the occasion.”

5. Planning the hair took months of preparation

Ward and his team kept Kate’s hairstyle under wraps by creating three secret “mood boards.”

Over time, the then-bride-to-be narrowed down the options until they found the perfect balance. Everything was kept completely confidential to preserve the surprise.
