The second day of King Charles and Queen Camilla’s historic visit to the United States concluded with a prestigious state dinner at the White House, the first of its kind since 2007.

Dressed in the rare "white tie" dress code, the King delivered a poignant 13-minute speech that balanced diplomatic gravity with sharp wit.

He touched upon the deep historical ties between the two nations, humorously noting how American maps reflect his own family’s "Christmas card list," citing places like Maryland, Virginia, and Prince William County.

In a particularly memorable moment that drew loud laughter from the audience—which included Jeff Bezos and Rory McIlroy—the King directly addressed President Donald Trump.

Responding to a previous comment by the President regarding European history, Charles quipped, "Dare I say that, if it wasn’t for us, you’d be speaking French!"

The speech served as a masterclass in soft power, reinforcing the enduring alliance between London and Washington through shared heritage and lighthearted banter.

Fashion was equally a focal point of the evening. Queen Camilla chose a long-sleeved pink evening gown by Fiona Clare, accented by a historic amethyst and diamond necklace that once belonged to Queen Victoria.

Mirroring the colour palette, First Lady Melania Trump appeared in a structured, pale pink Dior Haute Couture gown paired with traditional off-white opera gloves.

The King, President Trump, and other male guests adhered to the strict formal requirements, with Charles wearing a black tailcoat adorned with a blue sash and his military medals.
