The series Murdaugh: Death in the Family revisits the infamous double homicide involving the Murdaugh family and the deadly boat crash that shook South Carolina.

While the murders of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh take center stage as the show also digs into the stressed relationships among Alex Murdaugh (Jason Clarke), his brother Randy (Noah Emmerich) and their sick father Randolph (Gerald McRaney).

It highlights power struggles at their law firm PMPED, financial turmoil from the Beach case and growing family tensions.

In real life Randy Murdaugh spoke publicly after the June 7, 2021, murders.

Appearing on Good Morning America with his brother John Marvin, he called Maggie the “rock” of the family and recalled Alex phoning him in distress.

“I can’t imagine the horror that my brother’s experiencing,” he said, urging anyone with information to come forward.

Following Alex’s firing from PMPED in September 2021 and subsequent claims of being shot and entering rehab, Randy released a statement, “I was shocked, just as the rest of my PMPED family, to learn of my brother Alex’s drug addiction and stealing of money... I will support him in his recovery, [but] I do not support, condone, or excuse his conduct.”

In 2022, the firm was renamed Parker Law Group and though Randy attended Alex’s 2023 murder trial, he did not testify.

After the verdict, Randy told The New York Times, “He knows more than what he’s saying... he’s not telling the truth, in my opinion.”

Today, Randy Murdaugh continues to practice law in Hampton, South Carolina, where he lives with his wife and two daughters.
