The first trailer for Michael, the highly anticipated biopic about Michael Jackson, has finally arrived.

Released by Lionsgate and Universal Pictures on November 6, the teaser offers a first glimpse of Jaafar Jackson, the King of Pop’s real life nephew stepping into the role of his legendary uncle.

The film traces Jackson’s journey from his early days with the Jackson 5 to his death in 2009.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by Oscar nominated screenwriter John Logan, who has worked on films such as Gladiator, Aviator and Hugo.

The film Michael highlights the artist’s rise to fame, creative genius and personal challenges.

The trailer features scenes of Jackson in the studio with Quincy Jones, portrayed by insecure and How to Get Away with Murder star Kendrick Sampson.

At one point, Jones’ voice is heard saying, “I know you’ve been waiting a long time for this. The tracks are made, the songs are ready, let’s take it from the top,” as the beat of “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’” kicks in.

Originally announced in 2022, the production wrapped in May 2024 but faced multiple delays and reshoots before securing its April 24, 2026 release date.

The project has already sparked debate notably after Paris Jackson criticised the film for “sugar-coating” her father’s story and leaving the family out of the process.

Despite the backlash, production continued setting the stage for what could be either a heartfelt tribute or another separating Hollywood show.
