Gizmo and his playful mogwai friends are returning to the big screen to thrill a new generation of moviegoers.

San Francisco filmmaker Chris Columbus and Steven Spielberg are teaming up once again as Warner Bros. has officially greenlit Gremlins 3 as the first installment in the franchise since 1990.

Columbus will co-write and direct with Spielberg producing as the news was announced by Warner Bros.

Discovery CEO David Zaslav during the company’s third quarter earnings call on Thursday, November 6 and a release date is set for November 19, 2027.

The project reunites Columbus and Spielberg following their recent collaboration on The Thursday Murder Club, a Netflix comedy mystery that premiered in August and quickly became a streaming hit.

Columbus’ original Gremlins screenplay launched his Hollywood career after Spielberg discovered it “on an assistant’s desk one day” and decided to mentor the young writer.

The 1984 classic, directed by Joe Dante and produced by Spielberg, introduced audiences to mogwais adorable creatures that come with strict care rules, keep them out of sunlight don’t get them wet and never feed them after midnight.

When Gizmo accidentally gets wet chaos blow up in the small town of Kingston Falls.

The film grossed over $200 million on an $11 million budget making Columbus a star and leading to hits like Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire and the first two Harry Potter films.

Joe Dante’s 1990 sequel Gremlins 2: A New Batch mocked corporate culture but flopped at the box office.

Now, after more than three decades the beloved creatures are set to make a successful return.
