Prince William shares inspiring bedtime message ahead of Earthshot awards
Prince William revealed that he shares a reassuring message with his children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis before they go to bed.
The Prince of Wales spoke to Christiane Amanpour of CNN during the Earthshot Prize Impact Assembly on November 5 in Rio de Janeiro, ahead of the Earthshot Prize awards ceremony.
He told his children that the planet will be in a healthier and better state thanks to the work of brilliant people.
"You have to provide leadership and a vision that there’s good things to come and that it’s not all negative and for my children particularly, knowing the planet’s going to be in a healthier, better state because of the brilliant people in this room is something that I love to tell them when they go to bed," William said.
The 46-year-old added, "It's like, it's going to be great. Your future is going to be as bright as futures gone by, that's a really important message for all of us to hear."
William shares his three children with wife Kate Middleton and has previously promoted environmentally conscious habits at home.
He said in 2024, "Every family tries to do what they can to sort of help with the environment," adding, "We go through all the basics of recycling and making sure we minimise water use and turning off lights when we leave the house and stuff like that."
Over 2,400 nominees were submitted for the 2025 Earthshot Prize, out of which 15 finalists were shortlisted in five categories – Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste Free World and Fix Our Climate.
Each winner subsequently received $1.3 million, with performances by Kylie Minogue, Anitta and Shawn Mendes adding glamour to the event.
