Jacob Elordi's ‘Frankenstein’ performance beats Andrew Garfield's original casting
Jacob Elordi's Oscar chances boosted by Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’ role
Jacob Elordi recently delivered a phenomenal performance as The Creature in Guillermo del Toro directional, Frankenstein, a role that was originally meant for The Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield.
For the unversed, due to scheduling conflicts Garfield had to step away from the project as creating an opportunity for Elordi to step in.
This apparently became a game changing move for the 2 Hearts star, considering Garfield’s reputation as one of the finest actors of his generation, known for his unforgettable work in The Social Network, Tick, Tick… Boom!, and his turn as Spider-Man.
Moreover, speaking with USA Today, Toro recalled the moment he knew the-28-year-old actor was perfect for the part after watching his performance in Priscilla.
“Some actors, the moment you make contact, you already know them and you already have years of friendship even if you just met them. That happened to me. I instantly trusted him [Jacob Elordi],” said the director.
He added that Elvis losing his cool in Priscilla and “the mutation of the character in Saltburn from possible victim to sort of a righteous entitled rage” deeply impressed him when considering Elordi for Frankenstein.
With Netflix giving the film a limited theatrical release to qualify for awards season as the Kissing Booth actor’s haunting yet deeply emotional performance has already become a major talking point.
As critics praise his ability to convey raw humanity beneath the monster’s form, Jacob Elordi seems poised for a serious run at the 2026 Oscars.
