Why Trump’s call for Seth Meyers’ sacking is gaining major momentum
US President recently called out late night host Seth Meyers for having ‘no talent’
Seth Meyers is just one of the many Democratically aligned celebrities to be publicly called out by Donald Trump on his Truth Social account.
Recently, the president had shared a post targeting Meyers and his late night show on his own platform, which read, “NBC’s Seth Meyers is suffering from an incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS). He was viewed last night in an uncontrollable rage, likely due to the fact that his ‘show’ is a Ratings DISASTER. Aside from everything else, Meyers has no talent, and NBC should fire him, IMMEDIATELY!”
Trump’s online rants are well known by most and the one against Meyers would have not gained as much attention as it has by this point, if it were not for one essential detail — the head-of-state’s message was endorsed by Brendan Carr, chairperson of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
According to NPR, FCC is “the independent agency that regulates radio, TV, wire, satellite and cable” across the US.
Following Carr’s repost of Trump’s statement on his X (formerly known as Twitter) account, the FCC was reached out through a complaint made by Lisa Macpherson, a policy director at Public Knowledge, a non-profit group which advocates for “freedom of expression, an open internet, and access to affordable communications tools and creative works,” per its official website.
Macpherson wrote to the federal institute that their chairperson’s intervention in the matter is “a distortion of the FCC’s authorities in an effort to force the media to toe the line for President Trump.”
Other notable accounts and users on the social platform also voiced their concerns about the latest development.
Earlier this year, Trump’s social media posts were linked to the cancellation of other late night shows like the ones hosted by Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel. Though Kimmel’s show returned soon after being taken off air, Colbert’s is set to halt operations next year.
Meanwhile, Late Night With Seth Meyers is another programme which usually targets Donald Trump, with its host recently participating in a segment titled “Trump Aides Meet in Situation Room to Discuss Epstein Crisis; MAGA Furious Over Visas: A Closer Look” on YouTube.
