Angelina Jolie set to star in intense new thriller inspired by the world of mafia

Angelina Jolie is set to star in Sunny, a dark and intense thriller which has officially begun production under the direction of Eva Sørhaug.

Inspired by classic mafia films, Sunny centres on a woman who navigates the violent criminal world while trying to protect herself and her sons from an abusive drug kingpin and after a tragic incident, she has only hours to plan their final escape.

The script, written by William Day Frank, is based on a story he developed with Sørhaug.

The film is produced by Gramercy Park Media’s Nathan Klingher, Jolie, Nickel City Pictures’ Mark Fasano, and A Higher Standard’s Jeffrey Greenstein, with Choice Films also involved.

Sørhaug serves as an executive producer while A Higher Standard is managing worldwide sales, with WME Independent co-representing domestic rights.

Calling Jolie “a tour-de-force,” Fasano teased, “People are going to be shocked by what she brings with this riveting character. This violent world that Eva and Angelina have crafted is grounded in survival and family led by a mother doing anything and everything within her power to protect her two boys.”

“Angelina has made this role uniquely her own. Strong, character driven thrillers like this are rare and the attention to detail that she and Eva have brought to the film is impressive to watch,” added Klingher.

Angelina Jolie recently earned Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award nominations for her portrayal of Maria Callas in Maria while her other expected projects include Couture, Anxious People and The Initiative.
